Let’s get started!
Medical professionals in Dubai need a DHA licence.
The process runs in five simple steps.
It starts with a self-assessment and registration.
An assessment or exam may apply.
It clears you to practise in Dubai.
Who Needs a DHA License?
If you’re a doctor, nurse, or medical practitioner, you will need a DHA license to start your practice. It doesn’t matter if you are opening a private clinic or working in a hospital – this license is a must.
What is the DHA?
DHA stands for Dubai Health Authority. For those wondering, the Dubai Health Authority is responsible for issuing medical licenses in the city. They are the governing body that makes sure all medical professionals are qualified to practice.
They are the ones who make sure the healthcare system in Dubai runs smoothly. If you want to work in healthcare in Dubai, you must follow their guidelines and get their approval before starting.
Who is Eligible for a DHA License?
Here’s a list of all healthcare professionals who are eligible to apply for a DHA license:
Doctors (General Practitioners and Specialists)
Nurses
Pharmacists
Dentists
Physiotherapists
Medical Laboratory Technicians
Radiographers
Allied Healthcare Professionals (e.g., dietitians, therapists)
Step 1: Do a Quick Self-Assessment
Before you start, you need to check if you’re eligible. This part is super easy.
Go to the DHA website and click the green button at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll be asked a few questions about yourself. Just answer them honestly.
You don’t need any documents here, just create an account to see your results.
That’s it for the first step!
Step 2: Get Yourself Registered
Now that you know you’re eligible, it’s time to officially register. This part is simple too!
Cost: It’s around AED 200.
Documents You Need:
A recent passport size photo
A copy of your passport
A logbook if you’re a surgeon (don't worry if you're not!)
Note: You might need to take a Computer-Based Test (CBT) to show your knowledge in your field.
Just upload these required documents and you’re good to go!
Step 3: Schedule Your Oral Assessment
This is where you show what you know!
Pick a date for your oral assessment—whenever works best for you.
Pay the fee (AED 250 for normal, AED 2000 for urgent).
Once your date is confirmed, get ready to ace your assessment.
Afterward, you’ll get your results on Sheryan, which is DHA's online system.
Step 4: Activate Your License
You’re almost done! To officially activate your license, here’s what you need to do:
Make sure your healthcare facility license is active.
You need medical malpractice insurance (don’t forget this part!).
If you’re 65 or older, you’ll need a medical fitness report.
Non-UAE nationals will need a valid labor card.
Once all of that is sorted, submit your application online, pay the fees, and your professional license will be activated! You’ll get your eLicense, and you’re licensed professional.
